8.7 Mechanical properties of natural/synthetic fiber hybrid composites

In this section, the mechanical properties of the Napier/glass fiber hybrid composites are characterized. The hybrid composites are fabricated using the vacuum infusion method, and using epoxy resin as a matrix. The volume fractions of the composites laminates are 24%, 6%, and 70% for Napier, glass fiber, and epoxy resin, respectively. The hybrid composites are subjected to tensile, flexural, and low-velocity impact testing at elevated temperatures and different immersion times in water. The low-velocity impact tests are conducted at different energy levels of 7.5, 15, and 22.5 J.
